Courses & Workshops

The studio is a vibrant hub for students. I love teaching and inspiring others to develop their creativity through mosaics, be it weekday WEA classes, fortnightly Monday Mosaics evening classes or bespoke workshops, examples of students work is seen below. Whether you're an absolute beginner or have plenty of mosaic experience, there is something here for you.

All courses take place at Unit 6, Hartley Business Centre, Hucknall Road, Sherwood, Nottingham, NG5 1FD. The studio is on the first floor, the doors to the lift are heavy so please contact me for assistance if needed.

  • Mosaic is a versatile artform. It can be applied to three dimensional substrates giving colour, pattern and added structure to functional and decorative pieces. This course gives you the opportunity to apply your mosaic knowledge onto 3D surfaces. Starting with ready-made or found items such as plant pots, you will also learn how to make undulating substrates, as well as create or sculpt your own as a base for your mosaic.

  • The main aim for this course is for you to build your mosaic confidence and advance your practice —whether that is with new methods, enhancing your designs, or greater intricacy. You will be encouraged to undertake independent research, plan and design your own projects and calculate the costs. You will study the work of local and international contemporary mosaic artists learning from their techniques and processes as well as their designs.

  • During this practical course you will be collecting found materials and discarded objects and transforming them into unique works of mosaic art. You will explore the origins of Pique-Assiette, a style of mosaic art using broken china and found tesserae and learn how contemporary artists have developed this style. You will discover how the potential of materials such as glass and mirror can become the foundation of beautiful creative projects. From abstract art pieces to frames, lamp bases, and garden decorations, you will have the opportunity to reimagine and repurpose these materials in your mosaic creations.

Many have found that this is precious time carved out in the busy week to immerse oneself in ongoing projects or experiment with new techniques. Come with your own designs and ideas or be guided through a project.
